After many months of development and expressed community interest, MyAstoria.com, a community business database and comprehensive online resource, officially launches on June 19th, 2004.
Among its many features, including Free User Membership, Community Forums, Free Classifieds, and Searchable Local Business Directory, MyAstoria.com strives at becoming the quintessential virtual meeting ground for Astoria and its surrounding neighborhoods - Ditmars and Long Island City.
"Because Astoria has so much to offer, it can be a bit overwhelming for someone who is new to the area," said Rachel Weitner, Project Coordinator for MyAstoria.com. "We wanted to make the ultimate online directory, that contained a ton more information than you would find in a telephone book. We wanted for it to be visual, with pictures and maps and have all this information intuitively searchable".
Designed, marketed and operated by
Envision Blue, Inc., an Astoria-based Web Development company, MyAstoria.com seeks to recruit the ideas and suggestions of its user base, and offer its users plenty of features for free, including free classifieds, online promotions involving local businesses and downloadable pdf "E-coupons".
As a densely populated mixed community (a population in excess of 200,000), Astoria offers a wealth of multi-cultural small businesses, local shopping and dining, and community services. Traditionally, small businesses get lost in the myriad of results returned by the major search engines.
MyAstoria.com will be at Athen's Square Park all day on June 19th 2004, covering the multi-cultural performances in the park following passing of the the Olympic Torch, and promoting the site.
