OPEN STUDIOS / ART EXHIBITION
October 8 and 9, 1 – 6 pm, Saturday & Sunday
Fine Art and Creative Vision At Its Source
Discover the creative treasures tucked away among the commercial buildings and row houses of the fastest-growing arts magnet in the five boroughs: Long Island City. Join more than 50 professional artists for a visual feast as they open their private studios to the public for a FREE exhibition of painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia works.
Start your self-guided tour at Artlofts* -- just minutes from the Upper East Side of Manhattan at 37- 06 36th Street -- where you can pick up a map of studio locations and enjoy a concurrent exhibition by 14 Long Island City artists. Then continue exploring a world of art that will spark your imagination, activate your emotions, stimulate serious thought, and make you smile.
As you move from studio to studio, you can scale an Alpine landscape, traverse gritty urban streets, lose yourself in the serenity of a country garden, or be inspired by works that combine serious and comic elements to illustrate a range of emotional states. You may also enjoy art that transforms cast-off objects into images of mystery and beauty, or pieces that dazzle the eye with color and pattern. From the photorealistic to the abstract, the traditional to the cutting edge, Long Island City Artists Open Studios event offers an intimate look at fine art and creative vision at its source.
This event is made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts with public
funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and support through
The JP Morgan Chase Arts and Culture Regrants Program.
