Astorians for Hurricane Relief will be hosting a series of concerts to raise money for America's Second Harvest's Hurricane Relief Fund. Three Astoria businesses: Mezzo Mezzo, Freeze Peach and Waltz, are hosting this event and several local performers are volunteering their time for the effort. In addition, multiple businesses and individuals have donated items and services for a silent auction at Mezzo Mezzo on November 3.
After Hurricane Katrina, several young Astorians chatting on astorians.net, a community forum, wished they could do more than just donate cash from their limited budgets to help those affected by the disaster. Soon after, Astorians for Hurricane Relief was created. The three local businesses mentioned above quickly stepped up to donate their time, space, and efforts to our cause; and The Josh Irving Quintet, a very talented jazz group, offered their time and talent for a performance at Mezzo Mezzo - the finale event.
You've spent the last 504 hours staring at CNN. You tried to donate your panini maker to the Sal Val (they said "NO"). You gave blood, signed 14 petitions, and contributed to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund so many times that the operators know your name and refer to you as a "Chronic Caller." What else can you do to help?
